DATUK WIRA MD. SIDEK AHMAD obtains his Master of Business Administration from University of Ohio (Athens, USA) in 1995.  In 1975, he graduated as Bachelor of Science (Hons) majoring in Electric & Electronic Engineering from University of Manchester, Institute of Science and Technology. He is the Industry Representative of the Engineering Accreditation Council Board of Engineers, Malaysia, ‘Fellow Member’ of Institute Engineering Malaysia (IEM) and also served as IEM Council Member.

Datuk Wira Md. Sidek bin Ahmad begins his career in National Electricity Board (NEB) in 1975. Since serving NEB for more than 30 years, now known as Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), he holds important post in Operation and Top Management at District, State and Head Office levels such as Deputy Regional Manager (South), Regional Manager (Penang), and Regional Manager (Wilayah Persekutuan).  He was seconded to Lembaga Letrik Sabah (LLS) from 1983 – 1987 as Chief Engineer (Planning & Development).  In 1998 he was appointed as Vice President (Customer Services) and later as Managing Director, TNB Distribution Sdn. Bhd. effective 1st September 1999. He was appointed as Vice President (Corporate Services, Planning and Development) since 2nd January 2002.  On the 1st September 2004 he was appointed to his current post as Senior Vice President (Operations). Effective 1 January 2007 he was appointed as Senior Vice President (Operations & Technical).

He is the Chairman of the AESIEAP Technical Committee for year 2009-2010, Country Coordinator for Heads of ASEAN Power Utilities Authority, Malaysia (HAPUA), Chairman of the ASEAN Power Grid Consultative Committee (APGCC) from 2008 to 2009 and Committee Member for the Drafting of ASEAN Plan of Action on Energy Cooperation (APAEC) 2010-2015, Furthermore, he is also the Board of Director in a few TNB Subsidiaries, Advisory Council Board of Engineering Program, UNITEN and Council Member of Board of Engineers Malaysia Engineering Accreditation.


ASSOC. PROF. Ir. SAZALI P. ABDUL KARIM, P. Eng., ASEAN Eng., APEC Eng., IntPE,
drsazaliASSOC. PROF. Ir. SAZALI P. ABDUL KARIM, P. Eng., ASEAN Eng., APEC Eng., IntPE, has more than 19 years of experience in transmission protection systems, specializing in fault investigation with Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), a power utility in Malaysia. Sazali has been intensely involved in the protection studies and application of Fault and Disturbance Recorders in the Transmission Network.

With his experiences in fault investigation, protection coordination and planning, Sazali has been entrusted to head the Fault and Disturbance Analysis specialist team. His team has successfully introduced a new and very effective approach in conducting Fault Analysis. His work has contributed to a significant reduction of system minutes. Sazali has shared his ideas and experiences in a number of international journals as well as presenting several papers at various conferences. Sazali received an award from the Malaysian Government which was presented by the H.M. the King in June 2000 for his contribution in avoiding serious financial losses to TNB during minor and major trippings.

He also received international recognition when his paper entitled “Tenaga Nasional Berhad Experience on the Application of Fault and Disturbance Recorders” won the 1999 Best Paper Award at the Fault and Disturbance Analysis Conference in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. He was awarded the Silver Medal for his invention at the 17th International Invention, Innovation, Industrial Design and Technology Exhibition 2006, Malaysia. The same invention won another Silver Medal at the 35th International Exhibition Inventions, New Techniques and Products 2007, Geneva, Switzerland. Sazali received his Degree in Electrical Engineering with Honours from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. He holds a Master Degree in the same discipline with a specialization in Protection System Analysis for Transmission Overhead Line Using Fault Signatures.

His research interests are in the areas of Protection System and Fault Signature Analysis. During his research in these areas, he obtained two patents, a copyright and an IPSAZTM trademark. He is currently a Member of the Board of Engineers Malaysia, a Corporate Member of The Institution of Engineers Malaysia and a Member of Conseil International des Grands Réseaux Électriques Paris. Sazali is a registered Professional Engineer with the Board of Engineers Malaysia, The ASEAN Federation of Engineering Organization, The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation and The International Engineer Register. He also holds adjunct professorship position at Universiti Tenaga Nasional.

He is actively conducting fault analysis courses for power utilities in ASEAN countries, Asia Pacific, Middle East and Europe. Other than being active in the research and Fault Analysis training, Sazali is responsible for Protection System Analysis in Transmission System for Tenaga Nasional Berhad.
